Brasília – In less than two weeks three high level American officials have visited Brazil. First, it was the Treasury Secretary, Timothy Geithner. Then, the Assistant Secretary of State for Economic, Energy and Business Affairs, Jose W. Fernandez.

Now, Melanne Verveer, is here (until Saturday, February 19). She is Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues. Ms Verveer will meet Brazilian authorities to work on progress on the Memorandum of Understanding on the Advancement of Women signed last year by Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, and former Brazilian Foreign Minister, Celso Amorim. She will visit a Brazilian Women’s police precinct in Brasilia. In Recife, she will discuss strategies for women’s empowerment.

All the official traveling occurs as the final preparations are being made for the Obama visit in March.
