Vale, the largest iron ore in the world in 2010 reached the rank of major Brazilian exporter, beating Petrobras, the leader of this ranking since 2002. According to figures released today by the Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex) linked to the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC), foreign sales totaled Vale's $ 24 billion (FOB), 32% above shipments of U.S. $18.187 billion from Petrobras.

Because of an increase of 122.07% compared to total exports in 2009, the Vale accounted for 11.91% of total exports and re-assumed a position not held since 1998. The share of Petrobras in 2010 was 9.01%, with an expansion of exports of 47.78% over the previous year.

Embraer remained last year as the fourth largest exporter in Brazil, after Bunge Foods, according to Secex. Foreign sales totaled U.S. Embraer $ 4.159 billion (FOB value) 2.63% over 2009 shipments. Bunge Alimentos exported over 2010 U.S. $ 4.3 billion FOB, slightly less (-1%) the previous year, when exported $ 4.343 billion.

The petrochemical company Braskem ended 2010 in eighth position among the largest exporters in Brazil, with sales of $ 2.47 billion (FOB price). The result represents an increase of 30.49% over the previous year. Braskem has lost a position before 2009, for Samarco Mining. The company controlled by Vale and BHP Billiton jumped into 13th position in 2009 to the 5th position last year, thanks to a 120% jump in exports to $ 3.21 billion. The top ten companies in the ranking were: Vale, Petrobras, Bunge Foods, Embraer, Samarco Mining, Cargill, ADM Brazil, Braskem, Brazil and BRF Healthy Foods.
